Jillian Michaels Detox

The Biggest Loser is not simply a reality show, it has turned one of its  hosts into a celebrity in her own  right as well. Jillian Michaels has  become an inspiration for many, and one of her fitness methods, the  detox and Cleanse, has  become popular. But how is the Jillian Michaels Detox and Cleanse carried out, and is it as safe as it is effective?

Overview

The process of detoxification generally involves drinking certain liquids or  eating certain foods in order to purge the body of toxins. These toxins are generally in the bloodstream, confined to the colon, or are in fat cells or other cells in the body that might take up toxins along with other nutrients. Detoxification can lead to more bowel movement, more sweating, or even weight loss. The Jillian Michaels Detox and Cleanse promises to rid the body of 5 lbs of water weight over a week. There are several aspects to it, including a diet, water, tea, and pills.

Process

The Detox and Cleanse program by Jillian Michaels is fairly simple. It does not involve fasting, but it does require the supplement pills by Jillian Michaels, which have probiotics and special ingredients to encourage detoxification.

The pills are taken four times a day, twice in the morning and then twice at night. This program will prepare you for losing more weight.

The program also requires a special water. You simply need to put together water, juice, and tea in a pitcher, and then drink the decoction throughout the day. The entire pitcher has to be consumed each day for seven days, which should result in loss of water weight of up to 5 lbs. There are several dimensions to the program, as it is a holistic way of losing weight.

Price

Depending on the extent of your detoxification and investment, the Jillian Michaels Detox program can cost upwards of $15 for the pills alone (buy from Amazon). You will also need to buy tea, different juices, and special water to complete the program. It lasts for only seven days, but it can be repeated every few months.

What You Need

The Jillian Michaels Detox and Cleanse program requires purchase of pills, as well as a slew of other ingredients in order to complete the seven-day main program.

Water

To make the special water, you will need 60 oz of distilled water, a tablespoon of pure cranberry juice with no sugar added, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and a tea bag of dandelion root.

Tea

The dandelion root tea is available at health specialty stores, and can make the
water bitter. It is the main detox component of the water, and can even lead to stomach rumbling.

Diet

This Detox and Cleanse by Jillian Michaels does not involve fasting. However, Jillian also recommends a balanced diet that is full of nutrients, in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.

Pills

The pills for the program contain a wide variety of natural ingredients. These include ginger powder, garlic powder, yarrow powder, butternut powder, Uva ursi powder, buckthorn powder, Chinese rhubarb powder, dandelion powder, dark berry extracts (from blueberry, cranberry, cherry, raspberry, bilberry, grape, and strawberry) to provide antioxidants, and pro-biotics such as Lactobacilli to balance intestinal flora.

Does It Work?

Many people attest to the effectiveness of the Detox and Cleanse system. The reviews have been good, and have touted how much weight was lost. However, many reviews also say that although they lost weight, they did not lose fat. They also felt dehydrated most of the time, and some even reported feeling dizzy, which they attributed to losing electrolytes. A few people also did not feel that the detox worked: they did not have more trips to the bathroom, they did not lose weight, and they still felt bloated.
