Celebrity Diets

Celebrity bodies are in the spotlight constantly. With such pressure to  have fit bodies, celebrities  constantly explore dietary ways to  optimize their fitness and look  good. Some opt for tried and tested  formulas while others aren’t afraid to experiment creatively. Diets can vary in principle: some may regulate  certain kind of food groups; others may seek to detoxify the body of  impurities. Celebrity diets tend to be combined with fitness regimes designed  to complement the purpose of the diet. Celebrity endorsements- both official and casual- tend to influence the popularity of a diet.

Low Carb Diets

These diets are meant to minimize the body’s intake of carbohydrates.  Research has confirmed that excessive carbohydrates do contribute to weight gain. Low Carb diets focus on bringing a balance to the dieter’s everyday food habits by replacing the carbohydrate-heavy elements with  more nourishing and less fattening food groups like proteins or fiber.

Atkins

The Atkins diet strictly restricts carbs so the body can stop relying on carbs for energy and start using body fat to produce energy instead. Developed by  Dr. Robert Atkins, the Atkins diet saw great popularity across the US and  elsewhere in the early noughties. Celebrities on the Atkins diet include  Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston and Renee Zellwegger. Sharon Osbourne, Robbie Williams have also followed the diet. Geri Halliwell, Minnie Driver and Sarah Jessica Parker were also on the list of Atkins followers in the noughties.

South Beach

Devised by cardiologist Arthur Agatston and dietician Marie Almon, the South Beach diet is a low fat, regulated carb diet that continues to remain popular for its heart-friendly benefits. The diet basically replaces high GI carbs with low GI carbs and trans/saturated fats with unsaturated/omega 3 fat. Celebrity followers have included Eva Mendes, Bill Clinton, Kim Cattrall, Jessica Alba, Ashlee and Jessica Simpson.

Detox Diets

Detox diets are a favourite in celebrity circles for their cleansing powers. High-pressure careers in the spotlight have made detox diets popular in the  entertainment circuit. The general principle is to eat light, avoid all heavy, processed, unhealthy foods and combine this with other cleansing therapies. Kate Moss, Anne Hathaway, Beyonce, Jared Leto, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah have all gone the detox route.

Tea Diets

The Tea Diet usually requires a significant intake of green or white tea as way to boost metabolism, cleanse the system and lose excess weight. Celebrity patrons include Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston. The tea in use can be a non-caffeinated natural tea or a specialist blend of herbs that are meant to push metabolism function into high gear.

Paleo Diets

The Paleo Diet, devised by Loren Cordain, basically advises a return to eating habits from the Paleolithic era. It includes foods that were probably available at the time to cavemen hunter-gatherers and excludes dairy, cereal, pulses, sugars and processed food. The creator of the diet argues that this return to primitive tradition could help prevent some of the diseases associated with modern lifestyles caused by eating unsuitable food. Jessica Biel, Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox, Shannon Ford, Eva La Rue and Matthew McConaughey have all gone Paleo.
